Reflexive Relaxation Response
Floating activates your parasympathetic nervous system which is the opposite of the "fight-or-flight" response and is your body's reset function.
Definition
Your nervous system is split up into two parts:

(1) Sympathetic Nervous System
(2) Parasympathetic Nervous System

The sympathetic nervous system prepares the body for a “fight-or-flight” response during a potentially dangerous situation. The parasympathic nervous system restores the body into a calm state of homeostasis.

Floating elicits a reflexive relaxation response and activates your parasympathetic nervous system. This state is one of true rest and acts as a reset for your mind and body following reactions from the sympathetic nervous system. Floating has been shown to significantly reduce anxiety and stress, while improving sleep quality.
